Mince pies & hot chocolate - and a yellow sunset to close Christmas Eve

There are some spots you wish you'd known about before: and Black Fell may be one of them.

After leaving the melee of the Tarn Hows carpark, we quickly left the wondering crowds behind, and over some lumpy moorland, finding the top of Black Fell.

The summit, although not a high peak, had incredible 360 degree views - up to Langdale, over Windermere, right over to Morecambe and Heysham... we could even see the Lancashire peaks far away in the distance and wondered if we could see Ingleborough in Yorkshire. All at 4pm on a Christmas Eve evening.

Standing on top of the summit, with no-one else around, with mince pies from the local Staveley bakery and a flask of hot chocolate, we thought we might make this our new tradition for all Christmas Eves.

And this Wainwright has prompted our foray into attempting all the Wainwrights over the next year (we're not going on foreign holidays, so why not!), and we thought we might finish with Black Fell in a year's time!
