The Grassmoor Round

There are some days that you'll truly remember: and our day doing The Grassmoor Round will be one of them.

The walks starts from Crummock Water – and the views over the Solway Firth, Cockermouth, Buttermere and Loweswater... right back over to Keswick and Blencathra... are something else!

The walk started with Rannerdale Knotts, up to Whiteless Pike, right to Wandope, a quick nip up Crag Hill... then Grassmoor, right the way over to Hopegill Head, finishing with Whiteside.

I could start with one of my favourite views (my wife!), but the real highlights of the day were the shifting light and the patterns it left on the landscape.

This ridgeline and the way the eye follows the leading line down is my perfect composition: just the photo makes me want to get into the hills as I sit at my desk writing this!

Here's a selection of some of these patterns:

Looks even more amazing in black and white:

All I'll say is that this route was still a 7 1/2 hour day, after deciding to do a "smaller day" having initially planned a 10 hour day!
